Welcome to our little blog, we are 2 brothers and 1 student from Yorkshire and in the name of charity and fun we are driving from our home town of Moorends in South Yorkshire, to Calais, down through central France and on to historical Lyon, then a thrilling drive over the French Alps and on to Nice on the beautiful French Riviera, then on the final day we drive down the coast road and on to Barcelona on the Costa Dorada, sound like fun? Well we are doing it in a car worth less than £200...

Action for Children is our chosen charity, I am personally close to this charity as i have worked for them in the past and have seen first hand of the great work they achieve, Action for Children are committed to helping the most vulnerable children and young people in the UK break through injustice, deprivation and inequality, so they can achieve their full potential.

Action for Children helps nearly 156,000 children, young people and their families through nearly 420 projects across the UK. They also promote social justice by lobbying and campaigning for change.

Today, Action for Children is the leading UK provider of family and community centres, children's services in rural areas, services for disabled children and their families, and services for young people leaving care. We aim to raise as much money as possible to help Action for Children change lives whilst at the same time enjoy the challenge and have some fun.

The rally is spread over a long weekend from Friday 21st May 2010 to Sunday 23rd May 2010, we will keep you posted on our progress on the build up to the rally and will post daily while on the rally, you will also be able keep up with our progess on this blog through our gps live positioning... Please feel free to vist Action for Childrens web site for information on their good work and please donate as much as you can by clicking on the justgiving link, its all for a great cause...

NEW CHALLENGE FOR TEAM BOB

So I needed something else to do to raise money for Action for Children, I sat late at night racking my brains on a challenge similar to the Barcelona or Bust event that would not cost me the earth as I was out of work. Then it came to me, instead of using a car I'll use a bike, instead of Barcelona I'll choose somewhere a little closer to home. Then it came to me, Hookway to Hookway!!! BRING IT ON!

Hookway is a little village (well its more of a street) in Devon, I set up the laptop and started to plan a route. May I add that I am still planning the route!!! I want to do around 60 miles a day and keep off of main A roads, this is becoming very hard but I will crack it soon. I have spent days using google maps and road atlases, I even have an 8ft map stuck to the wall in my dads spare room. (the wife never took too kindly to it going in our bedroom.) With the planning and training this is starting to take over all of my spare time. It has at times become a little daunting but with the support of my friends, family and you lot, I know I'll get there.

So I intend to continue to raise the money by cycling from my local Children's Centre in Moorends, (Doncaster, South Yorkshire) to a small village in Devon called Hookway. This will work out at over 300 miles, the only problems I should have are... Well, I have not been on bike since I was 14 years old, now I'm 30 and I have a really bad sence of direction, so the 300 miles may end up being quite a bit more.

The trip is planned for August 2010. Please show your support and follow me on my little adventure, I have set up a new web site to document my progress so please take a look:

I have borrowed a bike off of a friend of a friend (a guy who looks the spitting image of Dara O'Brian, all be it a taller version). The bike has been nicknamed "The BEAST!!!" Its a Raleigh Phoenix, no carbon frame or wheels here, it does have straps on the peddles that are supposed to make me go faster but all they have done so far is make me swerve into on coming traffic while trying to put my feet into them. The BEAST had a buckled back wheel, the gears were loose and the brake cables were pulled but after some TLC she was pounding the roads!

Training started on the 13th of April, with a round trip from Moorends, through Rawcliffe Bridge and back through Thorne. A steady 15 miles that left me walking like John Wayne for a couple of days. I now have built it up 30 miles and my backside is toughening up. I refuse to add photos of my in ill fitting shorts and a hat as I am not built for Lycra or helmets, at all!!! I have chicken legs that are hairy enough to insulate and Eskimos sleeping bag and ears like taxi doors. Although pics will start to be posted as soon as the donations reach £200. So please dig deep and donate using the justgiving page, it all goes to a great charity. We have sold our place in the rally to another team and asked for the buyer to donate the money into our justgiving account.

Thank you

Martin

aka the old man from Team B.O.B

A BIG THANK YOU to Robert Beecroft for the donation of £90.00 + £25.38 Gift Aid. We hope he and his team enjoy the rally and raise as much money as they can for their chosen charity.

Thursday 25 March 2010

Fancy doing the rally yourself?

WELL DO YA?!?!

As you all now know sadly we can no longer race in this May's Rally so we are giving away our place.

(The entry fee for May 2010 is £185 per team/car, your car, hotel and all other costs are not included in the registration fee and are your responsibility, ).

Well I say giving away, we are not bothered about the full money back all that I ask is for people to place a small donation onto our justgiving page:

http://www.justgiving.com/barcelonaorbustaslongasittakes

The highest donation by 19:00 Saturday 3rd April 2010 will win the entry fee, so grab yourself a bargain and pop on a couple of pound, it all goes to a great cause. If you cant wait for April to confirm a team spot then email me at: teambob@hotmail.com with a generous offer.

More info on the rallies route can be found HERE, and the rallies officially page is over HERE...

Disaster Strikes Team B.O.B

Good Afternoon all, Martin here, firstly may I give my apologies to you all for the lack of activity on this blog over the last few months, to tell you the truth things have been a little hectic at the TEAM B.O.B HQ. I am still out of work but working around the clock with local authorities and schools in my area to set up out of school care and Adam has sadly been called into duty.

So this leaves us in a bit of a pickle, Our kid's in a tin can under the sea defending our shores (Kid is slang for brother, I do not put my children into tin cans)
, and I'm that skint I'm actually thinking about selling my body to science so I can feed my own kids. I feel really down about this, I feel like I have let so many people down, I feel like I have let myself down. I cant believe all the hard work we put into arranging fundraising events has fell flat on its face... BUT, all is not lost!

I was laying awake on Monday morning thinking how I could continue with the fundraising for Action for Children without spending loads of my own cash, then it came to me... I'll stay in this country, I'll use a vehicle that does not need petrol and ill put myself through loads of pain in the process!!!
Hookway to Hookway!!! This event will comprise of little old me, a bike and 300 miles to a little village/street in Devon called Hookway. This is just in the research stages at the moment, I have not been on a bike since I was doing a paper round and I am really poor at directions in a car (with a sat-nav) never mind a bike (without sat-nav) I would like to set off on May 20th (the same time as the lads and lasses set off to sunny Barca, but I have a lot of planning to do, oh and I don't own a bike!!!

Sooo A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone that has helped out so far, all donations will be returned to their respected owners or placed on ebay with their permission to continue to raise money for Action for Children. More details on my little Bike ride will be posted on her very soon so please stick around and continue to show your support, it will be greatly needed...

Martin
